I got very good at that. Too good, maybe. Good enough that when I finally sat under a sky full of stars in the middle of the night — alone, in a town nobody knew I’d gone to — the silence was the first honest thing I’d experienced in months.
That season — not one hard thing, all of them — was the pressure test. Not of how much I could endure. Of whether I would keep moving when everything in me said stop. Whether I trusted that the route existed before I could see it. Whether I would walk anyway.

Somewhere in the US. Middle of the night. The silence was the first honest thing I’d experienced in months.
The fundamental truth this article is built on
“Momentum creates momentum.”
Every time I’ve been truly stuck — the only thing that worked was movement. Not the right movement. Not the perfect movement. Any movement. Book the flight. Lace the shoes. Put your feet on the floor. The specific action almost doesn’t matter. What matters is that something moves. Because once something moves, something else follows. And then something else. That’s not a theory. That’s something I’ve tested in enough situations to call it a fact.
This is the core of everything I’ve built —
— all of it exists to serve one purpose. To keep me moving. To stop one falling thing from taking everything else down with it.
But knowing the principle and living it under maximum pressure are two entirely different things.
Before we go further
“Have you ever been in a season where everything fell apart at once — not one hard thing, all of them?”
The night that changed the direction
When the weight of everything was at its heaviest, I took myself to a remote small town. Alone. No agenda. I needed distance in the most literal sense — physical separation from the field of everything that was pulling at me.
And underneath all that sky, with nothing pressing in and nowhere to be, two questions I had been circling for weeks finally had enough room to land.
The two questions I asked myself under the stars
What is actually in my control right now?
And — who is stopping me from making any decision I want to make?
The second question is the one that broke something open. Because the honest answer — the one that arrived before I could dress it up — was: nobody. Nobody was stopping me. The committee I had been managing in my head had opinions. The situation had weight. But there was no external gatekeeper standing between me and the next decision I wanted to make.
I had been waiting for permission that did not exist to be withheld — because it did not exist at all. Only I had it. I had always only had it.
That was the moment I understood what it means to
flip the narrative.
Look at the same situation from an angle
where it might actually be in your favour.
The facts don’t change. Your relationship to them does.
And that changes everything that follows.
I decided, on that night, under those stars, that I would not stop. That I would make the best year possible in whatever way I could. Not in spite of everything that was hard — alongside it. Both true simultaneously, as they had always been.
Death Valley, somewhere in that year. Four continents. Work kept moving. Life kept happening. This is what momentum looks like when it becomes its own engine.
That year I travelled to four continents. I kept working. I kept planning. I kept showing up for the life I wanted — not because everything was fine, but because stopping would have meant giving the hard thing the calendar too.
Stopping was an option — it always is an option. But it is up to us how we want to deal with our situations and our emotions. The choice is not between hard and easy. It is between moving and not moving. And only one of those produces a life worth looking back on.
The three questions — your ten-minute meditation
When you are paralysed — when everything in you says stop — you don’t need a five-step framework. You need ten minutes alone with three honest questions. That’s the meditation. Not a breathing exercise. Not a journaling practice. Three questions you sit with until the honest answers arrive.
The ten-minute momentum meditation
Find somewhere quiet. No phone. Ask these in order. Wait for the honest answer — not the one that sounds okay, the one that actually arrives.
The path forward reveals itself once you tune in to this energy. Not before. The questions create the opening. The honest answers create the direction. The direction creates the first step. The first step creates the momentum. And momentum creates momentum.
Your turn — the honest check
“Right now — what is the thing you’re about to cancel, postpone, or walk away from because everything feels too hard?”
What momentum actually looks like under pressure
It doesn’t look like confidence. It doesn’t look like clarity. In the early stages, it looks almost identical to going through the motions.
You make the plan not because you feel like it. You keep the trip not because everything is fine. You take the next available action not because you can see where it leads — but because you understand, at a level below feeling, that the route only exists once you start walking.
The rule that protected the year
Don’t let the hard thing take the calendar too.
When everything is falling apart simultaneously, the instinct is to cancel everything until it resolves. Resist this. The calendar is the infrastructure of a deliberate life. The hard thing already has your emotional energy. Don’t give it your time as well. Keep what you can. Adjust what you must. But protect the calendar.
I stopped measuring that year by how it felt while I was in it. I started measuring it by what I did. Four continents. Work that kept moving. Plans that stayed on the calendar. Memories that now live in the file when I run the year test — not despite the convergence, but alongside it.
That is what momentum produces. Not a perfect year. A year with something in it that was entirely yours.
Session 5 — Your momentum audit
What are you about to stop — that you don’t have to?
Work through these honestly. This is the exercise that breaks the paralysis.
The convergence
What is falling apart right now — name everything, without editing?
The narrative flip
How could you look at this situation from an angle where it might actually be in your favour?
Your control inventory
What is actually in your control right now — specifically, today?
The calendar check
What plans or commitments are you about to cancel — and do you actually have to?
The first move
What is the smallest action you can take in the next 24 hours that creates forward momentum?
Download the full Session 5 worksheet — the complete momentum audit with the three-question meditation, the narrative flip exercise, and a template for protecting your calendar and your year.
The route doesn’t appear
and then you walk.
You walk —
and the route appears.
That’s the only order it has ever worked in.
That’s the only order it ever will.
Where this goes next
You have the momentum now. The three-question meditation. The narrative flip. The calendar protection. The understanding that the route reveals itself in the walking, not before it.
Article 6 is the one nobody talks about — the season where you didn’t just navigate one fire or lose one thing. You lost the plot entirely. Somewhere between being responsible and being invisible, you stopped recognising the life you were living. That article is about finding it again.
